Graphic Design Family Crest

This was the family crest that we created for Mr. Davis's Graphic Design Class. These crests were meant to share with viewers what the core values of our families were. For my crest I chose family, animals, Jewish holidays and education.

Here are the initial sketches:

Since I unfortunately missed one of the work days for this project and my computer was being repaired the past week, I was not able to create different variations my crest, although I did play around with some of the colors and shapes. I can describe it though. I tried to change around what I wanted the initial crest to look like. I see all of these traditional crests that look like shields, but since I am Jewish I wanted to change things up. My Grandfather being a Holocaust Survivor and a contributing member of the Jewish Community is very proud that I made a torah scroll/Isreali Flag family crest. I think it really explains what my family is all about.
In the end, I chose to insert the four core values me and my family came up with when I discussed this with them. We chose education, Judaism, family and animals. I feel like if you saw this crest you would know what we are all about.  I did not want this family crest to look traditional at all. I made a crest that looked like a torah, and the Israeli Flag at the same time. I made a cool design where you are looking at the flag and the scroll and it looks as if you are opening my families story.

Final Crest:

So this final design has four core components. The first symbol in the top left is education. All of my brothers and I go to private school, and education is important to me, my parents and grandparents. Education is the key to the future. In the top right corner we have a home. A home represents my family. My family and I are all close and know each other extremely well and are open about most things. In the bottom left corner we have a puppy paw print. My family and I volunteer at an animal shelter for about 2 weeks every year up in Utah. We volunteer at best friends animal shelter and last year adopted from there. It is what me and my family like to do on our free time and we own three cats and one dog personally. In the bottom right we have a Menorah. This represents the Jewish Holidays. Every Jewish Holiday our entire family gathers and eats and dances and has fun with one another. We are a very happy family and I think this deserved a spot. About the scroll. Well, I have been Bar Mitzvahed and so has my brother. My entire family, going back generations has been Bar Mitzvahed and we all are devoted Jews. I also think it was cool how I made the scroll look like it was unwrapping our lives. All of this put together best represents my family.
